I read a few years ago an experiment by one of the known CEO executives of a firm based in Silicon Valley.
The idea was to demonstrate that he could work from the phone only for a week.
I found that striking and could not experiment this with my company since the infrastructure was not in place.
A couple of years after, we’ve now implemented various tools and suites such as Google G Suite, Trello, and other cloud-based tools.
The experiment is now possible.
And in a small and medium-size business, I argue that it is a very useful experiment.
We’re torn between being hands-on, producing for the company, and doing pure management.
I believe that being on the phone for one week would force us to focus on people, on coordinating people instead of doing the work ourselves.
This can help take some distance and see the big picture, focus on talking to clients and suppliers, instead of being in the trenches trying to be productive.
The balance is hard to get and perhaps we’re in a time where the business can be run on the palm of our hands.
