For the past years, I have been curating a list of apps that I use to get things done.
Over the coming weeks, I will share them with you, explaining how you can use them in combination to create the perfect workflow.
The first in this list is Wunderlist. It is a task management app. I have been using it regularly since 2014. I use it regularly on my iPhone and sometimes with the native app on my mac.
The interface is very intuitive and effective, and the synchronization across devices and people makes it excellent.
Even though it never took over my general task management (personal and professional), I have found Wunderlist very useful for travel planning, grocery list, and shared grocery lists.
Making travel packing checklists
I love traveling, but packing is a dreadful task! For me, it has been annoying me since I started to study, and I have been packing most weekends for more than 10 years.
In order to pack faster and avoid forgetting something, I use Wunderlist to create checklists.
I have checklists for a generic list for most trips and a specific list for a particular trip. I include all the things that are required for the duration of the trip.
It allows me to pack very swiftly and ensure I don’t forget anything.
When it is time to pack again to travel back home, you can use the same list and cross-check every item you originally packed.
Making grocery lists
When you go grocery shopping, you always end up forgetting something. This is very annoying, especially if your shopping place is not close to your house, or you have a tight deadline to prepare dinner for your friends.
Here is how to do it:
- Create a general list of items,
- When you go shopping, cross out each item you buy.
- Next time, display the list of items you bought last time
- If you need one item in the bought list, put it back into the purchase list
- If you miss some items in the list from last time, add it to the list
By reading your list, which becomes bigger and bigger every time, you ensure that you will not forget anything.
With this systematic approach, you will never forget anything.
Sharing grocery lists with someone
The above scenario is even more practical if you share this list with your girlfriend/boyfriend, wife/husband. You can collaborate on the list, each person buying something in the store, and ensuring you don’t buy two times the same thing.
Check out Wunderlist.
